Angelica Nanda Schäfer
Movement Teacher & Explorer of Inner Freedom
Västerås, Sweden
Angelica Schäfer is a movement and yoga teacher whose work explores the path toward greater inner freedom through movement, stillness, rhythm, and attention. Drawing from more than 25 years with yoga alongside dance, Ayurveda, meditation, and a lifelong relationship with nature, she created Freemove Yoga as an invitation to move beyond prescribed forms and learn to listen to the body as a wise teacher. Her practice creates space for curiosity, aliveness, and the freedom to discover what wants to move from within.
Life's Work
Angelica Schäfer is a movement and yoga teacher, Ayurvedic practitioner, and creator of Freemove Yoga, an approach born from more than 25 years of exploring movement as a pathway toward inner freedom.
Angelica’s relationship with yoga has continually evolved. What began with traditional Hatha Yoga and periods of ashram life in India gradually expanded beyond prescribed forms into a more intuitive exploration of movement, dance, rhythm, meditation, and stillness. Along the way, a central question emerged: what happens when we stop telling the body exactly what to do and begin learning how to listen to it?
That question became the foundation of Freemove Yoga. Angelica approaches the body as an intelligent teacher with a language of its own. Through guided movement, participants are given enough structure to feel supported and enough freedom to follow sensation, curiosity, impulse, and their own internal experience. Movement passes into stillness and stillness back into movement, creating an ongoing conversation between what we consciously know and what may be waiting beneath the surface.
Her approach has been shaped by an unusually broad life of study and experience. Angelica has trained in yoga in Sweden, England, and India; studied Ayurveda, massage, holistic health, personal training, and movement; and spent decades dancing in forms ranging from jazz and folk dance to free movement. She has worked professionally in health and movement since 2004, founded her own yoga studio in 2015, and has taught at retreats, festivals, workshops, and events internationally.
Nature is equally foundational to her practice. Before dedicating herself fully to this work, Angelica lived among the mountains and fjords of Iceland and studied literature in Uppsala, Reykjavík, and Gothenburg, completing a master’s degree focused on feminine primordial power in the Icelandic sagas. Years spent walking through Iceland, New Zealand, Lapland, India, Sri Lanka, and Thailand have reinforced an understanding of human life as inseparable from the rhythms and elements of the natural world.
Across yoga, dance, Ayurveda, meditation, and movement, Angelica’s invitation remains remarkably simple: listen. Listen to the body, trust what it knows, and create enough space for something less prescribed and more alive to emerge. For her, movement can become meditation, exploration, expression, and ultimately a practice of coming home to greater freedom within ourselves.
