Life's Work
James Lally, RN, BSN, HNB-BC, is a holistic certified behavioral health nurse, educator, and breathwork facilitator whose work explores the meeting place between neuroscience, lived experience, and compassionate mental health care.
For more than a decade, James has worked in inpatient psychiatry, supporting people through periods of significant psychological distress and developing a particular interest in trauma-informed care, emotional regulation, and the nervous system. His clinical experience has given him a close view of the many ways human beings adapt to stress, uncertainty, and difficult experiences, as well as the importance of approaching those responses with curiosity and compassion rather than judgment.
Alongside his clinical work, James develops continuing education programs and community workshops focused on emotional regulation and resilience and has presented his work at multiple Mental Health Expos. He also coordinates Spravato (esketamine) treatment services, giving him experience with emerging approaches to mental health care alongside more established psychiatric practice.
Breathwork offers James another way into many of the same questions. He facilitates community breathwork experiences that invite people to encounter nervous system regulation directly through the body rather than understanding it only as an intellectual concept. These experiences emphasize presence, connection, and the possibility of becoming more familiar with our own patterns of activation, settling, and response.
Across clinical care, education, and experiential practice, James is interested in making the workings of the nervous system more understandable and more human. His work invites us to become curious about what our responses may be communicating, to recognize the intelligence within many of our adaptations, and to develop greater capacity for meeting ourselves and others with awareness, resilience, and care.
